Visual Communications (Flashing
Light) (COLPAC-542)
This course will satisfy the exam requirements for
flashing light.
Subjects include Morse Code and Flashing Light.
Prerequisites courses or endorsements.
- A Master or Mate Unlimited endorsement or
approval to test is required.
- This course is no longer required for Master or
Mate endorsements of 1600 tons or less.
- It is recommended that students learn Morse
Code prior to taking the course.

USCG approval:
Any applicant who has successfully completed
your 1-day Visual Communications (Flashing
Light) course will satisfy the practical signaling
examination requirements (flashing light) of 46
CFR 10.401(h) if presented WITHIN ONE YEAR of
the completion of training; AND will be
considered to have successfully demonstrated
the equivalent of assessment OICNW-4-1A from
the National Assessment Guidelines for Table A-
II/1 of the STCW Code. Applicants who have
successfully completed your course need not
present a completed “Control Sheet” for this
assessment in application for STCW certification.

Course Registration and Schedule
This one-day course can be scheduled any weekday
that the school is open.
Registration is on the first day of the class and requires
a photo ID and full payment for the class. Acceptable
methods of payment are cash, check or credit card
(Visa or MasterCard).
This course is taught in a self-study formate and
scheduled one student at a time as classroom space is
available. We can generally schedule this class with a
few days of advance notice.
