Assistance towing and auxiliary sail endorsements can be added to any license
of 200 GRT or less. These endorsements are not required for inspected
licenses of greater than 200 GRT.

Assistance Towing Endorsement

Any USCG license of 200 GRT or less, including an OUPV license, may be
endorsed for Commercial Assistance Towing. This endorsement authorizes the
holder to engage in commercial assistance towing within the scope of their
license. Mariners with licenses for towing vessels or with licenses greater than
200 GRT may engage in commercial assistance towing without this
endorsement. No sea service experience is required for this endorsement.

Auxiliary Sail Endorsement

An endorsement for Auxiliary Sail Vessels may be added to any master or
mate license of 200 GRT or less. This endorsement may not be added to
an OUPV license. To qualify for an Auxiliary Sail Endorsement the license
holder must document sea service experience on sail or auxiliary sailing
vessels. The amount of sea service experience depends on the
    endorsement requested.

Master near coastal requires 12 months experience on sail or auxiliary sail
    vessels.

Master inland requires 6 months experience on sail or auxiliary sail vessels.

Mate requires 3 months experience on sail or auxiliary sail vessels.
